HEIDI MALANO -
2007 Ms. Fitness USA- 2nd Place
What motivated you to compete in your first fitness competition?
It was my New Year’s resolution!! On New Year’s Day (January 1, 2006), I saw the Ms. Fitness USA 2006 competition on television, and I told myself right then and there that I would make a resolution to compete!
What did you love most about competing in your first “Fit For Life” competition?
The Ms Fitness Colorado competition was actually my very first fitness competition! I loved everything about it, especially being able to perform again. I grew up a dancer, so it was a lot of fun being on stage again, showing the audience what I worked so hard to accomplish.
What do you feel was most helpful in preparing you to compete in your first year of getting started in fitness competitions?
I need to answer this in two parts:
1- what I feel was most helpful was the dedication and determination I had for myself. Those two “D-words” kept me moving forward every day!
2-
it was “who” besides “what” that prepared me and the answer is: Tiffany Yee! She put me on a fitness and diet plan to help me progress mentally and physically each day!

What was your experience doing Body Statement’s Online Nutrition Program and working with Tiffany in your competition preparation?
I truly believe that Tiffany and Body Statement’s Online Nutrition Program were the foundation to my success. In addition, it was staying honest with myself and not straying from my workouts or diet. I believe that DEDICATION and SELF-DISCIPLINE are key to a successful all-around experience.
What advice would you give to someone interested in getting in shape or competing?
First, I would recommend she speak with Tiffany and get started on a week-to-week plan, which will prepare her in every way, shape and form for competition. Second, I would tell her to set a goal for herself and then to set “daily motivators” to help her reach that specific goal. I’d tell her to stay focused and determined; and to listen to her heart.

What did you love most about competing at Ms. Fitness USA?
Ms. Fitness USA and Ms. Fitness World were incredible experiences, which I will cherish forever! As a first-time competitor, the biggest thrill for me was placing in the Top 5 for USA (2nd Place!), as well as in the Top 10 for World (8th Place!) (I really don’t think the excitement will ever escape me). The other thing I loved most was having my family and friends in the audience. The support they gave me was tremendous, and I’m so grateful for them.
What are your future goals in fitness?
I will continue to compete and win First Place in Ms. Fitness USA.
I will make a fitness video.
I will write for fitness publications.
I will open a destination fitness spa, where I can help others to discover a fit and healthy lifestyle through exercise and diet.

Easter Sunday!

Stephanie Downs spends her Easter morning making handmade Easter baskets customized for each child depending on their age and gender! Later that day, Tiffany Yee and BODY Statement clients, Stephanie and Steve enjoy their Easter afternoon preparing warm homemade lunches (yes, Stephanie actually cooked a meal) and serving the homeless and their families!
BODY Statement is working with specific charities every couple months and will be working closely with the Sacred Heart House of Denver (see below). If you would like to participate or volunteer time, food/supplies or donations, please contact us!
Sacred Heart House of Denver offers a continuum of services to homeless mothers with children and single women, who have the desire and commitment to become self-sufficient.
